Crowdsourcing design via CrowdSpring
on Nov 10 in Blogroll by adminApril is always the busiest month of the year mostly because of the NAB – the biggest trade show in the industry, and I am in charge of our presence there. This year I decided to try a new approach – instead of hiring one particular studio to design our collateral I wanted to try crowdSPRING. It’s a fairly new startup based in Chicago and founded by Ross Kimbarovsky and Mike Samson.
crowdSpring is a platform that connects talent from around the world with potential clients that are in need of a good design. It is significant because it levels the field and provides opportunity for individual designers and companies big and small to stand out and get rewarded.
The process:
I uploaded a description of what I am looking for, gave as much technical and artistic direction as I could and threw in a couple of photos and technical drawings. The reward was set at $800 so I set back and eagerly awaited what happens next…
Three days later first entries started coming in, I was amazed. At the end of the week there was 78 different entries, a good percentage of them really creative. I picked four that I gave additional direction to and chose one in the end that really blew my mind.
The Winner:
Turns out – the artist is from the Philippines!
